PRIDE'S Organization Constitution

 

PRIDE Constitution Preamble: In order to provide a safe and respectful atmosphere in which all members of the Christian Brothers University community are able to express personal concerns, views, values, prejudices, stereotypes, and dreams about diversity; to explore and embrace the differences between cultures, races, religions, genders, socio-economic status, and sexual orientation; to educate ourselves and one another about the effect our race, gender, class, and religion has on our view of, and interaction with, other people; we do hereby ordain and establish the Constitution for PRIDE on behalf of the people of Christian Brothers University.

Article I. Name The name of this organization shall be PRIDE. PRIDE is an acronym for Pursuing Real Issues through Diversity Education.

Article II. Membership

Section 1. Students in good standing who are matriculating at Christian Brothers University shall have membership and shall be eligible to be active, voting members and to hold office in PRIDE. Other interested parties shall hold membership and voting privileges at the discretion of the officers and advisor of the PRIDE chapter. Section 2. Any eligible person who attends a minimum of one general business meeting of PRIDE per academic term shall be considered an active, voting member of this organization for that academic term, and shall have one vote to be exercised in said business meetings. Section 3. All Christian Brothers University faculty, staff, alumni, and significant other(s) are eligible to hold associate membership in PRIDE. Associate members may neither vote nor hold office but are otherwise entitled to all the rights, privileges, benefits, and activities of the organization. Section 4. There shall be no dues or other assessment aside from tuition for membership in PRIDE.

Article III. Officers

Section 1. The officers of PRIDE shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, and Parliamentarian. Their duties shall be commensurate with their titles. Section 2. The officers shall be elected by a simple majority vote of the active, voting members present at the designated general business meeting of the Spring term. Section 3. The term of office of the officers of this organization shall be one academic year. Section 4. Any officer of PRIDE may be removed from his/her office by a two-thirds vote of the active, voting members present at any general business meeting. Section 5. In the event of the removal of an officer or in the event any officers resigns his/her office, a special election shall be called by public notice within two weeks following the said officer's removal or resignation, and at least one week prior to said election, and a new officer will be elected by a simple majority of the active, voting members present at the said meeting.

Article IV. Committees

Section 1. The standing committees of PRIDE shall be the Executive Committee, Programs Committee, and Public Relations Committee and other committees as deemed necessary by the organization. The Executive Committee shall consist of the elected officers of PRIDE. Section 2. The President of PRIDE shall chair the Executive Committee. The appointed Chairperson of the Programs Committee shall report to the Vice-President. The appointed Chairperson of the Public Relations Committee shall consist of the elected officers of PRIDE. Section 3. The primary responsibility of the Executive Committee shall be to set policies and procedures for PRIDE, to oversee its fiscal commitments, and to plan and execute programs.

Article V. Meetings

Section 1. There shall be at least one general business meeting per month excluding summer term. Public notice of the meeting shall be made at least two business days prior to said meeting. Section 2. A quorum for the general business meetings shall be fifty percent plus one of the active, voting members of the organization at said meeting. Section 3. There shall be at least one Executive Committee meeting per month. Section 4. A quorum for the Executive Committee meetings shall be one hundred percent of the Executive Committee members of this organization.

Article VI. Ratification This constitution shall be in effect, immediately upon ratification by two-thirds of the active, voting members of this organization. Article VII. Amendments This constitution may be amended by a vote of two-thirds of the active, voting members of this organization. Article VIII. Adherence to Rules and Regulations PRIDE shall adhere to the "Student Handbook" and all other laws, rules, and regulations governing Christian Brothers University and its students.
