PREAMBLEWe, the full time undergraduate students members of the International Student Alliance do herby ordain and establish this Constitution to provide for the general welfare of the members of this organization. Our mission is as follows:
- To promote friendship between the international Students at Christian Brothers University
- To promote awareness of the different cultures and educate fellow students about them.
ARTICLE I: INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ALLIANCE Section One: Name
The name of this organization shall be International Student Alliance. Hereafter referred as ISA
Section Two: Jurisdiction
All students that are considered members of this Club shall be under the Jurisdiction of ISA.
Section Three: Student Rights Each Student shall be subject to the rules of ISA and Christian Brothers University but these rules shall at no time and in no way abridge the Students rights as a citizen under the United States Constitution or the Constitution of the State of Tennessee . No legislation by ISA may be considered valid if it is in direct conflict with federal, state and local law or University Policies.
Section Four: Membership
In order to be considered a full member the person must not only have registered in the membership list but also must attend regular meetings and activities. After attending…. The associate member will be considered a full member. The full member can becaome an associate member again if he misses more than 3 unexcused meetings in a semester. Only 2 excused meetings are allowed per semester unless the rest of the members of ISA vote in favor of allowing this particular member more excused absences due to illness, family problems etc.
ARTICLE II: VOTING PROCEDURES Section One: Date
Elecctions for ISA officers should be done during the first weeks of the Spring Semester. Elections shall be no later than the last week of January. The date of election should be given to active members at the end of the fall semester and remembered to them as soon as the spring semester starts. Installment shall be during the first week of February.
Section Two: Place
Elections shall take place in the usual place where meetings are held. The only ones present at the moment of election and that are considered full members are allowed to vote. The counting will be done that same day and the winners will be announced.
Section Three: Position Requirements
In order for someone to be considered for a position. The person must be considered a full member of ISA and must present a Slate letter related to the position he wants to run for. In the case of running for more than one position then the candidate will be required to present a slate letter for each offices he is running for.
Section Four: Validity of the Election In order for the election to be considered valid at least 1/3 of the full members should be present to vote. If not the election will be considered null.
Section Five: System The voting shall be anonymous. There will be sheets of paper where the members will write their choices and these will be placed in a box. After everyone submitet theirs then the president shall start the counting.
ARTICLE III: OFFICER DUTIES
The President Shall: - Have an overall responsibility for the operation of ISA
- Attend all regular and special meetings set by Christian Brothers University and other organizations.
- Preside at all regular ISA meetings and reserve the place where these are going to be held during his office.
- Be aware whether or not the rest of the officers are performing their duties.
- Fill out SGA forms (membership etc) and control that the other officers are filling out theirs.
The Vice- President Shall: - Perform the duties of the president in his absence , inability of service , or his call.
- Be in charge of programming, meaning that he will make the calendar that establishes all the activities for the semester and will create comities to organize them.
- Be in charge of Community Service and will be in charge of creating comities to plan the activities.
The Treasurer Shall: - Be in charge of presenting a budget in order to get SGA funding
- Once the funding is obtained he shall be the one that makes sure there is no bad usage of the funding and that the budget is being respected.
- Shall control that the community service hours are enough in order to get funding from SGA.
The Publics Relations Officer Shall: - Promote activities through making banners, flyers, newsletters etc.
- Be in charge of the ISA board located next to the gym. In front of the post office.
- Design and get approval for any marketing tool he wants to use.
- Be in charge of recruitment and he shall appoint a commite in order to promote recruitment of new members.
The Secretary Shall: - Record in meetings what is said and then send it to the ISA members.
- Take roll
- Make a list of those who will be eligible as registered voters for the officer Election
- Report any excused absence to the president.
ARTICLE IV: IMPEACHMENT
The process of impeachment shall be as follows:
- A full member my present a letter of impeachment to the president which lists the reasons why this person should be impeached.
- The president will read the letter and in the next meeting the letter of impeachment will be read to the full members of the club.
- The impeached will have the right to defend himself in front of the other members.
- The impeached member will leave the room and voting will take place.
- In order for someone to be removed from his position 2/3 of the full members shall vote in favor of it.
ARTICLE V: COMMUNITY SERVICE
According to SGA regulations: The organization must complete at least one community service project a semester. SGA will only recognize a community service project if the following criteria are met:
- The total number of community service hours performed must be at minimum of 3 hours multiplied by the total number of active members of the organization.
- Fall Semester community service projects must take place on or after the first week of classes and before December 1st.
- Spring semester community service projects must take place on or after December 1st and before April 1st.
- Community service forms must be turned in to the VP of finance mailbox no later than December 1st for the fall semester and no later than April 1st for the spring semester.
ARTICLE VI: COMMITTEES For different activities the officers shall create Committees in order to delegate work so that the task is distributed equally among the full members of the club. After the event has taken place then the Committee will be dissolved. Constitution Drafted by
